What the area has in common
This is hill and lake country with long, cold winters. Wood stoves and fireplaces do real work here, and the housing runs from farmhouses and old village homes to former summer cottages. That adds up to heavy use, ageing masonry and a great deal of freeze-thaw weather on every chimney.
